Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT), also called Liquid Penetrant Testing, is a relatively low-cost inspection method used to locate surface defects in non-porous materials such as aluminum alloys. DPT is used to detect casting defects, lack of weld penetration, and forging and welding surface defects such as hairline cracks, surface porosity, and fatigue cracks.
