Vacuum Heat Treating
Achieve the Ultimate Heat Treating Control
Vacuum heat treating is a process used to treat metal components in an environment that has very little or no air. In this process, the metal is placed in a vacuum furnace, which is a sealed container that removes all of the air from inside.
Once the vacuum urnace has been sealed and the air has been removed, the metal is heated to a specific temperature. This temperature is usually quite high and is determined by the type of metal being treated and the desired final condition.
The heating process can take some time, but once the metal has reached the desired temperature, it is held there for a specific period of time. This is called the soaking period and it allows the metal to reach a uniform temperature throughout.
Stack’s vacuum heat treating department is state-of-the-art and constantly maintained to ensure peak performance. Our furnaces can process loads up to 8,000 lbs. at temperatures that range from 300 °F to 2200 °F. Gas quenching with argon or nitrogen as quenchant is used at pressures up to 6 bar.
Overall, vacuum heat treating is a precise and controlled way of treating metal that can result in improved mechanical properties like strength and durability. It is commonly used in the aerospace, automotive, and medical industries.
We offer a range of cycles to meet our customer’s unique needs. Our numerous vacuum furnaces provide unmatched capability and capacity, allowing us to consistently exceed our customer’s expectations for quality and delivery.
